If you haven’t seen Squid Game yet, literally, where have you been?!
South Korean model and actress HoYeon Jung has shot to superstardom since the release of Netflix’s spectacularly popular K-drama.
Now, Jung (who plays Kang Sae-byeok in the series) has been signed by Louis Vuitton as the brand’s newest global house ambassador for fashion, watches and jewellery.
Within days of Squid Game landing on the streaming service, it became the first Korean drama in history to hit the number one spot in the US.
Jung started her career as a model (she won the ‘Asian Star Award’ at the Asian Model Awards in 2019, has walked for the likes of Marc Jacobs, Fendi and Max Mara and was the runner-up on season four of Korea’s Next Top Model) before making her acting debut in Squid Game.
She has since become a social media star almost overnight, and is now the most-followed Korean actress on Instagram.
It’s unsurprising, therefore, that Louis Vuitton have chosen Jung to join the brand – though it’s not their first partnership. In 2017, she walked the runway for the fashion house, modelling their spring ready-to-wear collection.
‘I immediately fell in love with HoYeon’s great talent and fantastic personality, and I am looking forward to starting this new chapter of the journey we started at Louis Vuitton a few years ago,’ said Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s creative director.
‘It is an honour to start my acting career with Louis Vuitton, the brand I have modelled for,’ said Jung. ‘I look forward to all the moments with Louis Vuitton as a global ambassador.’
Happily for Jung, this means she gets to trade in her famous green tracksuit for something a little more glamorous…
